Pan Mass Challenge; Rider’s Eye View

A week after the event, I am still awed by the experience of riding the Pan-Mass Challenge. More than that, I am awed by the generosity of the people who stepped up to sponsor me; in fact I was stunned and humbled to make my fundraising minimum of $3,400 the day before the ride, even though the PMC organizers give us until October 1 to raise our funds.

If you would like to jump on, my fundraising page is still open– just go to this link.

The video below gives snippets of my view of the 2-day ride, but a few impressions in words:

  • The people cheering along the side of the road, all along the trail, were an inspiration. A number of them let us know they were cancer survivors themselves
  • The signs posted along the entrances to the water stops, reminding us of the children with cancer who benefit from the fundraising
  • The many volunteers who fed, sheltered and otherwise helped us riders worked harder than anyone on a bike
  • It was great to meet up with Duncan Perry, one of the folks who originally encouraged me to sign up for the PMC, in Bourne
  • A huge shout-out to the Team 9 folks: Lee, Eva, Jose and Erik, who picked me up on Day 2 when I was really dragging and let me ride with them until the finish. Despite the many hills up the last leg, I felt like I finished strong thanks to those folks

Pan-Mass Challenge Finish

More video to come later in the week, but thought you might like to see the proof as I crossed the finish line in Wellesley MA after day 2. The folks in front of me are the "Team 9" members who picked me up for the last leg of the ride.

Thanks again to all who sponsored! To join them, please go to http://www.pmc.org/…ofiles.asp – any amount is welcomed

Pan-Mass Challenge on NECN

I was amused to see a brief shot of me sitting on my fat rear-end at the Pan-Mass Challenge Wellesley finish line yesterday. Great ride, with lots of support along the way. I’ll do a longer post later in the week, but enjoy this for now, and look for me in the blue riding jersey.

Oh– and it’s still not too late to donate to the PMC! If you would like to join in sponsoring me, please go to my PMC profile page— and thanks!.

utterz-image

I got one last training ride in today before this weekend’s Pan-Mass Challenge. 160 miles? No problem! I will be sure to send Utterz and Twitter dispatches throughout the ride (it’s not a race!).

While fundraising (for the Jimmy Fund, a children’s cancer charity) continues until October, I would love to make my goal before the ride starts Saturday. Only $339 to go- want to help?

To sponsor me, click the blue PMC logo on the right at www.doughaslam.com to get to my sponsor page- and thank you!

Pan Mass Challenge Night at Fenway Park

Last Saturday was Pan Mass Challenge Night at Fenway Park. The Red Sox have supported the PMC for six years, and its chosen charity, the Jimmy Fund, helping children with cancer, for something like 60 years.

It was a sight to see the unveiling of the new PMC logo on the left field "Green Monster," and the dozens of cyclists- all cancer survivors- riding the warning track to home plate.

f course it was fun to take my son and watch him get some autographs before the game as well.

I am riding the Pan Mass Challenge– a 2-day ride of about 160 miles- the first weekend in August. Will you join the generous friedns who have supported me by sponsoring my ride? As I write this, I have only $905 to go to make my minimum goal of $3,400. Please help by donating at http://www.pmc.org/…ofiles.asp.

Thanks!

Pan Mass Challenge Training- Riding with a Group

This weekend, I found a group to ride with– good practice for the actual event (coming in 4 weeks– yikes!).

Also good practice: riding 2 days in a row. This is from the 2nd consecutive day of riding.

I am riding the Pan Mass Challenge in August, a 2-day ride for which I am raising at least $3,400 for the Jimmy Fund to help children with Cancer.

Please join in by sponsoring me– which you can do at: http://www.pmc.org/…ofiles.asp

Only $1,180 to go as I write this!

PMC Training; New England Landmarks

My latest Pan Mass challenge Training Ride took me on a 50-mile trip past various New England historical landmarks, including:
Walden Pond
Concord Center/Sleepy Hollow Cemetery
Lexington Battle Green
Bunker Hill
Hatch Shell
Fenway Park

It’s amazing that I took all those in– and Harvard Square– in just 50 miles!

Fundraising is also going well– I have raised 2,140 dollars from many generous sponsors as of this writing, but I’m not done.

My total goal is $3,400 – help out the Jimmy Fund and kids with cancer by joining the sponsors– any amount helps– and thanks!
