Hi Doug – I am a PR person and blogger. I agree with you that the PR Blackout seems like a flip off to PR. And in a way I do think it was. Maybe it wasn’t mean spirited, maybe that’s not how they intended it, but think perception is reality in many cases.

I also completely agree that bloggers can be naive as to ethical disclosure practices. I think for some, being offered free product is a novely and WOW HOW FUN! They don’t always understand the obligation that is implied by accepting product. And most PR reps aren’t big bad bullies, some of us are the good ones and believe in the brands we represent and simply want to spread the word.

I also think in many cases PR and bloggers (with those being not mutually exclusive) work great together – but its a few bad apples that spoil the barrel.
