Interesting point regarding the "Chris Brogan effect", he tweeted about one of my blog posts and I received approx. 150 visits in 2hrs.

Absolutely agree with your statement:

"It also shows me that people are naturally inclined to help each other"

Maybe I am naive but, i believe that *most* people are inherently good and will help with most reasonable requests (especially when it doesn't require too much time & effort)

cheers!

Happy belated birthday, Doug. The 4,000 by 40 is a great idea. Nice story potential as well. Hope you are well!

I think people understand "silly quests" involving numbers because we do them ourselves (searching for the perfect handbag or the perfect golf club, etc.). Last summer I watched along as Noel ("noneck") Hidalgo journeyed on his quest to get to seven continents by 07/07/07. Here's the link. http://luckofseven.com/ So, yes, people are right about it being silly and all the rest, but hurray for you and hurray for Noel. And here he is on Twitter. http://twitter.com/noneck

Doug, a great write up to a great birthday quest for a great guy. Why that one person would unfollow you, I don't know. Why those hundreds would follow you, I know dearly: You are a great man with a great heart and mind, just beginning to hit your stride as you hit the big 4-oh.

Happy Birthday, Doug!

I love this post, Doug(H)! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! You are always great fun to follow, great fun to see, and this pursuit is no exception. I've met some amazing people through social media (and especially Twitter), and you are one of them. Mad about you! Welcome to the big 4-0 (and you'll be @ #4000 soon, no doubt). And my best to LW and boy! :) Rock on, dude!
